Imagine This:
You and five to eight other clergywomen share an oceanfront retreat house. Each woman has her own room, all meals are provided. A seasoned facilitator gathers you for a group session on the first evening and once again later in the retreat. You have one individual coaching hour at the retreat, and another after you return home. Morning Prayer and Noonday Prayer (both optional) are offered in the retreat house chapel, and a variety of art supplies and puzzles are in the next room inviting you to play.
Your Time is Yours
Walk on the beach. Study parish/diocesan profiles. Go for a swim. Update your resume and materials. Walk the Stations of the Cross. Imagine more clearly what could be. Sleep. Prepare for interviewing. Gaze out the 4th floor cupola. Remember who you are.
Your Host
Helen Svoboda-Barber answered God’s call to actively support clergywomen’s discernment over a decade ago. She is the founder and director of Women Embodying Executive Leadership (WEEL), a cohort model of discernment for the episcopate. She helped create and continues in leadership for the US version of Leading Women. She has coached over 75 clergywomen both individually and in groups as they explore their vocation and reimagine their futures.
Your Spot
Pelican House is situated on the ocean side of Trinity Retreat Center, Salter Path NC. It was built as a silent retreat house with 9 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, kitchen and living room, bonus room, chapel, cupola, and of course several porches. The ocean sits just on the other side of the beach berm, inviting long walks or spending time in the water. Meals are taken in the dining hall, situated on the sound side, a short trail walk away.

Flying: RDU in Raleigh is a 3-hour drive. ILM in Wilmington is a 2-hour drive. There are closer regional airports in New Bern (EWN) and Jacksonvillle, NC (OAJ).
